As far as a good day goes, today was eventful. We began our day, meeting Jon at 11:00 outside our hotel. From here we travelled using the Metro (which did I mention is across the road from our hotel!?) to Escola Digital where we got to meet Paulo, the gentleman who coordinated our Work Experience. He briefly explained the outline of the project we will be working on until we were soon joined by Christina, the director. When she arrived we were given a more detailed description of what will be needed and where we will be filming as well as what will be expected of us throughout our time here. After meeting her we moved on to 'Flag' a media organisation which is allowing us to edit the footage that we catch on their equipment. After a guided tour by a friendly woman around the facilities, we were then given promotional items, such as; a notebook, a pen and a coincarrier. Our stomachs notified us at this point that it was time for lunch and so we went to a food court on the lower floors of a shopping district. IT WAS DELICIOUS! Paulo, who is a lecturer in a Film College in Amadora decided to show us around his work area which is located on the suburbs outside of Lisbon. Even the views from the train were incredible. Here we were shown the amazing compilation of media and theatre equipment. They even had a room consisting of film reels which dated back to 1971 as well as an amazing film set including a camera crane and amazing dolly. We relaxed out in the scorching heat (26 degrees Celsius is actually so hot) on a balcony before continuing our tour of the College. We begin shooting for the documentary tomorrow at 5pm! We all think this is going to be an exciting time and we intend on gaining as much experience and insight into the media world as possible from it, as well as passing on what knowledge we have ourselves to others. At this point in time we are thinking of returning to Bairro Alto for some cooling refreshments and friendly encounters. Until tomorrow, the Media brats in Portugal.
After a2 1/2 hour flight, we arrived to a bright blue sky and scorching hot weather (which apparently hasn't happened in months). Luis, the head of the College we are working with met us at the airport and after accidentally running away from him we met him and we're on our way. The Metro is a great form of transport after fully realising how it works, not that we have yet, AT ALL. But it is quick and with a bit of common sense it is actually extremely easy to navigate yourself around the city. We started our trip by taking a walk through the main street in Lisbon before quickly becoming distracted by the hardcore vibes coming from the Hard Rock Cafe! We had a de-luz-full meal before heading off to Bairro Alto to check out some of this famous social gatherings that we have been hearing about for so long. We sat ourselves down on pillows on the street and took in the surroundings before moving on to explore more of the beautiful culture surrounding us. We had a great night and a lovely sleep in our hotel, which did I mention has balconies and beautiful views from every window. Luz - Light. Waking up to rays of sunlight is something we could all definitely get used to, today we met Luis who brought us on a scenic route to the College, Escola Digital. While constantly taking in the energy and culture of the city. After arriving outside extravagant architecture, we went inside and ended up being surrounded by different Portuguese 'restaurantes' and Burger King, obviously. Soon after finishing we made our way to 'Estadio de Luz' with the boys from the Level 6 Sports Development course. We were given a guided tour of the new museum (which has some crazy digital media) and learnt quite a lot about the city itself. We start our Work Experience tomorrow and we are all looking forward to it, even though we still aren't fully sure what to expect. This experience, even in the first two days is in one word, AMAZING. escola digitalbairro altoestadio de luz |
